"The Melonville Comedy Festival” is January 26 and 27 at the Hermiston Community Center. Tickets will go on sale around December 1st. The show is sponsored by KORD and ROCK 97, along with the Desert River Inn.
“The Melonville Comedy Festival” is the new name of for the ‘Superbowl of Comedy’.
Why the name change?
“The NFL has been coming down on the use of the words Super Bowl used together in any form’” according to Smith. “Who wants to mess with them guys.”
The Show started in 1992 at Umatilla County Fairgrounds and has grown ever since. Most of the money raised goes toward charities, including the Special Olympics, who sell food at the show.
Nearly $12,000 dollars have been given out since the show has started.
Past comics have included. Auggie Smith, Derrick Cameron, Dwight Slade, Costaki Economopoulous, Lord Carrett, David Crowe, James Johan and Mitch Hedberg. “In the world of concert type stand up comedy, these guys are the big leaguers.” Smith Said.

Mike Armstrong, the Ex-cop turned comic, headline act for the Friday January 26 show. Armstrong is on the “Bob and Tom Radio Show” quite often and is also a headline comic on the “Friends of the Bob and Tom Comedy Tour”. Because of his commitment to Bob and Tom, Hermiston really lucked out in getting Mike to come to the show.
Starring in the Saturday January 27th show is Mike Marino. The New Jersey comedian is often seen heckling Jay Leno on the “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”. He is also on Howard Stern’s Radio Show and Rick Dees Radio Show and hosts his own program called “Wiseguy Confidential.” Marino has also been featured on the “5 O’clock Funnies”
